Recruitment Guidelines
ABOLISHED BY SEAMO GOVERNORS 2004 JUNE 21 Policy 1. THAT before proceeding with recruitment, the Staffing Policy Committee must be satisfied that a careful analysis has been completed to ensure that one or more of the SEAMO deliverables cannot be met within existing resources;
2. THAT in keeping with the approved Staffing Plan, recruitment must:
2.1 Support the mission and strategic plan of the Faculty;
Contribution/impact on identified priority programs/areas
2.2 Support the missions and strategic plans of the hospitals;
Contribution/impact on identified priority programs/areas
2.3 Support central and essential clinical services -- regional and/or mandated programs;
e.g. Trauma, cardiac, perinatal, women's programs, etc.
2.4 Support central and essential education programs:
Parent discipline
MD, residency Complementary Discipline
Other
Parent = primary department
Other = Rehabilitation Therapy, Nursing, etc.
2.5 Support priority or important research activity.
Areas of identified focus or concentration (e.g. cancer, neurosciences, etc.)
Current support in place (from basic science or other areas).
NB: In the application of these criteria, the balance of choices may vary over time, and at any one time with respect to individual appointments. These guidelines are predicated on the absolute imperative of having a staffing plan in place. There may be occasions where well-supported requests do not fall within the plan, in which case, the SEAMO Staffing POlicy Committee will forward such requests to the SAMO Governing Committee for decision.

Appendix A In applying the criteria of the Recruitment Guidelines the following test will be applied:
1. Does the proposed position description:
• Match a priority identified in the Faculty's Strategic Plan?

• Match a priority identified in the Strategic Plan of one or another of the Hospitals?
