Policy:

SEAMO has established an endowed fund for the purpose of supporting scholarship and education. Interest earned in the fund will be allocated by a four person committee. The purpose of the fund will be to support individuals and for projects which further scholarship in the continuum of medical education including:

• Improvement of our understanding of or application of such knowledge in the teaching of medical students;
• Improvement of the training program of residents and fellows;
• Support for continuing medical education.

Those eligible for support must:

1. be in receipt of SEAMO-sourced compensation;
2. be Queen’s School of Medicine Geographic Full time faculty members; and
3. be a member in good standing of CTAQ.

A Committee will be established to receive and review applications for funding. Decisions of this Committee will be reported to the SEAMO Governing Committee. The Committee will include the Senior Associate Dean Medical Education, two individuals appointed by the Clinical Teachers’ Association of Queen’s and, as a non-voting member, the Director for Health Science Education. The Senior Associate Dean Medical Education will serve as Chair of the Committee and provide all necessary administrative supports.

While the Committee need not allocate all funds available, allocation shall not encroach upon principal without the express approval of the SEAMO Governing Committee.

The Committee is charged with defining the processes by which applications will be made and reviewed, including but not limited to:

a) the application cycle
b) advertising regarding the availability of the fund;
c) special focus of the funding the Committee may wish to pursue; and
d) all other matters.

The Committee will report its decisions to the SEAMO Governing Committee.
