We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Reznick Scholars in Health Professions Education, which recognizes the distinguished service and leadership by Dr. Richard Reznick at Queen’s University.

The Reznick Scholars program honours Dr. Reznick’s commitment and dedication to improving the quality of health care and health professions education. Dr. Reznick is a true believer in the importance of educational scholarship, knowing that its impact goes beyond the classroom and serves to train better healthcare professionals. His work is nationally and internationally recognized in advancing Canada’s health system.  Thereby, enhancing the health of Canadians.

The Scholarship is open to all Queen’s Faculty of Health Sciences faculty members. Successful recipients will be awarded $20,000 over two years to develop their educational projects.

Over time, it is our hope that the recipients of this scholarship will make up a cohort of scholars committed to health professions education at Queen’s.

As 2020 is the inaugural year for the scholarship, one faculty member from each of our three schools has been selected to receive the award. In subsequent years, there will be one new Reznick Scholar designated annually.

The adjudication panel was overwhelmed with the quality of applications received for this scholarship and is excited to support the three inaugural recipients. The recipients of the 2020 Reznick Scholars in Health Professions Education are:

  • Dr. Danielle Blouin, School of Medicine - The Scholarship of Accreditation
  • Dr. Kim Sears, School of Nursing - International Certificate in Health Quality
  • Dr. Kathleen Norman, School of Rehabilitation Therapy - Refining the Definition of Rehabilitation Science

The creation of this scholarship was made possible by the generosity of alumni, benefactors and friends, including the support of the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation and Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization (SEAMO).

If you wish, donations are still being accepted to help support the lasting impact of this scholarship. Donations can be made to the SEAMO Reznick Scholars in Health Professions Education Fund (open to all SEAMO affiliated physicians) OR the Helliwell Reznick Scholars in Health Professions Education Fund (open to faculty members from Medicine, Nursing & Rehabilitation Therapy).
