SEAMO is very happy to announce the launch of two new clinical-facing funding competitions as approved by the Governing Committee on October 2, 2023. Two small committees of subject matter experts worked together in focused groups to establish the details of the funds.

Clinical Professional Development Program

This new fund was created in response to interest from SEAMO membership for opportunities to develop clinical skills. This includes upgrading or enhancing existing clinical skills as well as learning new skills. All SEAMO-funded physicians are eligible to apply and the maximum award amount is $50K. This is one of several investments SEAMO is making to support our thriving and engaged membership - $1M has been set aside to support this initiative. Department Heads must submit applications.

Clinical Fellowship Program

This fund is meant to support recruitment into SEAMO-funded positions by providing financial support for fellows to obtain additional training following the Royal College/College of Family Physicians-accredited residency training period. With this one-time $1M investment, SEAMO will be able to fund up to 10 awards valued up to $100,000. This program may be completed in Kingston or at another academic institution in Canada or abroad and must accompany intent to recruit from the Department Head to ensure there is a vacant position for the fellow. Cross-Departmental applications are encouraged as the individual can meet a clinical need in more than one Department, therefore making a larger impact.

Both competitions will be held annually for the next three years and will be evaluated at the end of the second year to determine the future of ongoing funding. Importantly, the deadline for applications is Friday, December 1, 2023 at midnight. Applications must be emailed to seamo@queensu.ca. To learn more, visit our Funding Opportunities webpage.
